Growing My Interest in Personal Finance Through theTax Academy

I’ve always been interested in personal finance, and this September I decided to take that curiosity a step further by enrolling in H&R Block’s intensive Tax Academy Level 1. Throughout the program, I learned the fundamentals of Canadian taxation, T1 returns, and various schedules. After weeks of studying and hands-on practice, I completed the course with a final score of 90.6%.

As someone who learns best through visual memory, I feel incredibly lucky to have had an excellent instructor, Manjeet Dhindsa. Whenever we had a new chapter, he would connect it back to previous concepts, highlight the differences, and explain how rules interact across real scenarios. His structured and comparative teaching style made the learning process logical, engaging, and much easier for me to absorb.
Through this course, I realized how government policies use tax rules to guide behaviours toward certain social and economic goals. It’s fascinating to see how policy design, incentives, and individual financial decisions are all connected.
I look forward to continuing my learning journey. My next step? Practicing Python 🙂
